How Cambridge Analytica Interfered With Kenyan Democracy.

Cambridge analytica a controversial data firm based in UK after it appeared to have had a hand in acquiring and using personal Facebook data in the 2016 United States Elections is also under scrutiny for the role it played in the much controversial Kenyan 2013 and 2017 election.

Cambridge Analytica’s senior officials in expose by Britain’s  Channel 4 News revealed that their company played a critical role in 2013 and 2017 to help President Uhuru Kenyatta’s election campaigns.

These revelations are coming just two weeks after President Uhuru and Rt. Hon. Odinga met and reconciled and had the much touted ‘golden handshake’ after months of high political temperatures.

In a series titled, ‘Data, Democracy and Dirty Tricks’, Mark Turnbull, an executive at Cambridge Analytica, said the firm rebranded President Uhuru’s party twice, wrote campaign speeches and contacted 50,000 surveys twice to ascertain voters’ fears and hopes.
He goes on to say that they engineered propaganda in a digitized campaign painting Hon. Raila as corrupt, dangerous, violent and a god of poverty, and painting Hon.Uhuru in a positive light.

They used skewed videos on matters that are a major concern to Kenyans, issues that they touched on were, health, terrorism and infrastructure. They went ahead to portrayed Mr. Odinga as Alshabaab sympathizer.

There propaganda campaigns had one message was titled, "Stop Raila Save Kenya.... The Future of Kenya is in Your Hands.

To achieve their goals

In the video Cambridge analytical executives say to achieve their goals they use so many tactics including putting politicians in compromising situations using bribes, sex workers from Ukraine and fake identity.

Nix, the CEO of Cambridge analytica is quoted by Channel for saying, "We'll offer large amount of money to the candidate, to finance his campaign in exchange for land for instance, we’ll have the whole thing recorded, we’ll blank out the face of our guy and we post it on the internet.’’

On fake identity
Nix says, “we set up, if we are working then we can set up fake IDs and websites, we can be students doing research projects attached to a university, we can be tourists, there are so many options we can look at……”

However in a statement, Cambridge Analytica said and I quote, “Cambridge analytica does not condone or engage in entrapment, bribes or so called ‘honey traps’,”
So unfortunate even after destroying the country’s democracy on lies and propaganda, lives being lost and tribal rifts increased they will just get away with it.

Why Are The African Mighty Falling?

“How have the mighty fallen…….” David in the book of 2 Samuel 1:25 is also wondering.

In the last few years we have seen what we can call dramatic changes in African politics. Rulers are being overthrown and they cannot believe it.

Starting with Tunisia, in 2011, Ben Ali resigned. This came after there were endless protests in Tunisia. These protests even made him flee to Saudi Arabia to seek refuge.

These happenings in Tunisia would later inspire a revolution in Egypt that made Hosni Mubarak’s 30 years reign to come to an end. Not forgetting Libya’s Muammar Gadaffi whose reign of 42 years was brought to an end when he was killed.

Most recently these wave of change visited Zimbabwe where Mugabe was ousted after 37 years, so quickly it happened to Jacob Zuma of South Africa and Ethiopia’s Prime minister HaileMariam as they were forced to resign after continuous protest against them.

None of us ever thought the mighty in Africa, who had powerful regimes would one day come crushing down this way.

They are going down from hero to zero so fast like Nebuchadnezzar and his son Belshazzar and these happenings should be a lesson to other african rulers.

Rulers be reminded, do not take your God given position for granted. It would not matter how secured and powerful you are when that day comes.

Do not be drunk with power you “mighty”,that you start oppressing others and enriching yourself and close friends. Your days are just numbered.

Who is next? Is a question that remains unanswered.
MENE TEKEL.

Kenyan Government is Broke Because of Corruption

When CS Rotich said that the government is broke and was unable to repay KShs 77B which was due this year October it may not have come as a surprise, and according to him, there are plans of taking another Euro bond to repay the syndicate loan.

When he says, that they are broke and planning to take another Euro bond, what rings in our minds is the mega scandals that came to light in 2016 that made this country sink low. There was massive looting and little was done by this regime to save the taxpayers money from corrupt officials. These scandals are the reason the government has gone broke.

The Euro bond Scandal
According to the Auditor General, KShs 215 billion Euro bond was not accounted for, this was two years after it was claimed by the government that the money was allocated to various ministries. Even though the government claimed to have the cash allocated, there was no receipt of expenditure to prove that true to their word, that the money was indeed allocated and spend anywhere within the government.

The NYS Scam
There were double payments of goods and from investigations by the police it emerged that entries from the integrated financial management information system (IFMIS) which is supported by the government, were manipulated. Zeroes were introduced on all transactions where by 791 million was reported to have been stolen.

Afya House Scandal
It was reported that officials at the ministry had stolen Sh5 billion, funds were diverted, double payments of goods and just like the NYS, the integrated financial management system (IFMIS) was manipulated.

Other scandals that happened under this regime are:

1.    10 billion is suspected to have been lost when there was the GDC tendering.
2.    The irregular Lamu Coal project, the company in question did not submit any proposal but it was awarded the tender, here KSh 475 billion was suspected lost.
3.    The JKIA 55.6 billion shillings, was said to have gone into the drains, during the new terminal tendering which was irregularly done through the KAA.
4.    Can you still remember the KShs 100 million hustler’s jet?
Among many more not mentioned.

So when the CS says that they are broke, and they want to borrow from Peter to pay John, he needs to be reminded that it’s because they misappropriated funds through the run-away corruptions and we expected this to happen someday.
Mr. Rotich should know that the government is broke because of them and not because they built the SGR ,or even the not seen five stadia. The only development agenda that was successful until today is corruption.

To Fly High Like An Eagle Be Surrounded By Winners.

Surround yourself with people who will always want to see you achieve your dreams.

People that are striving to achieve great things in life are going to empower and push you to be a better person. These great minds will always inspire and help you in believing in the beauty of your dreams.

When pulling your life’s chair for people to sit on, try to make sure that these are people who you can learn from and are self-driven with visions to succeed anywhere. People who will fan those dying embers in you to light brightly.

Time is precious; never waste it by engaging with consistent failures. What I mean is that; spend most of your precious time with people who are adding value in your life and not those who are making you worse.

If you associate with that person you associate yourself with, know that it’s a process that is automatic and you will become like him or her.
People you choose will either help you to become better or hold you back.

Evaluate the direction your life is taking with the people you surround yourself with, it’s easy to fall in someone else's plan, if you don’t have people to help you drawing a clear plan for yourself.

Step up. Separate from those who don’t have goals and visions, because they will hold you back.

If you surround yourself with chicks, you will fly low, but if you hang around with eagles you will learn how to fly high.
Engage with people who push limits and break their own records.

Greatness is contagious.
